March 14th- Guest Post By Mrs.Oz

Today's readings in the Chronological Reading plan are Deuteronomy 6-9:29
I greatly apologize. I went to the ER yesterday with complications from laprascopic surgery I had three and a half weeks ago. I won't be able to post and did not know in time to give Tammy an email heads up.
Perhaps you all could share in comments what was significant to you in the reading? Thank you for your patience.
Tomorrow's reading is Deuteronomy 10-12:32

So sorry to hear that you had to go to the hospital, Alicia. Feel better soon.

So the biggest thing that I got from today's reading was, in simplest terms, we accomplish nothing on our own. Everything we accomplish is through the gift of God, giving us certain talents and abilities, strengths and weaknesses for us to use as best we can to further his kingdom.

This part especially spoke to me: "Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." Deut. 6:5-7

God should be foremost in our hearts and our minds no matter what we're doing. In our daily lives, as we go about all the inglorious tasks of living, we are to remember everything he's done and is doing in us and through us. We are never to forget, as the Israelites did on several occasions, that there are no other gods before him and everything that we are and have is from God.

The other thing that stuck out for me is that God didn't give the Israelites the promised land because of their righteousness or worthiness. He gave it to them because of his promise, because he loved them, and because the people living in that land were wicked and therefore he drove them out. The Israelites did nothing to EARN the bounty of Canaan, just as we can do nothing to EARN the redemption offered by the blood of Christ. We cannot be righteous enough ever to earn passage into Heaven to be with God for eternity. It is because of God's promise, and his love for us that we can accept the gift of redemption and be purified to enter Heaven when our time here on Earth is done.

No problem Alicia. So sorry to hear about the complications and pray you feel better really soon.

Great thoughts Miriam - I totally agree. That is one of my favourite verses too. Making our faith an integral part of our every day lives is so essential - especially in modelling our faith to our children.

Teaching our children about God and about His Word is something that we as parent have to take responsibility for. Even if they go to Christian private school, or Sunday School, or Girls Club or all 3 - that is not enough, and that does not lessen our responsibility.

Another passage that jumped out at me is Deut 8:17-18 You may say to yourself,`My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.`But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth

It can be easy to fall into the trap of pride and independency to the point of giving ourselves all the credit. It`s easy to think that we worked hard for our paycheques, we worked hard to pay for this house and this food. Forgetting that God gives us the strength to work, He gives us the mental abilities, the physical capabilities - we can do nothing without Him.

Laughing Lady,
Thanks. I did not want to put this in the post but what happened they found, was the surgery and pain meds for the surgery blocked my system if you know what i mean:) It was so bad and I had been having pain that I kept thinking was just the surgery pain still but it was getting worse. It got so bad on Sat it almost made me pass out so I went to the ER not sure what was going on. They took an exray and discovered the problem...lovely yes. So, it is an "easy" fix. I am so anxious to be off this roller coaster though! I know God has a will through every part of it but it's been challenging.
Thank you for your prayers.

Well, what a huge relief it must have been to know that's all it was, despite the incredible pain. So glad that's been solved ~ one less hurdle before the finish line!
