"But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears from hearing.

"They made their hearts like flint so that they could not hear the law and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets" Zechariah 7:12

This is what happens when we ignore our conscience, ignore the Holy Spirit, and willfully decide to give in to temptation. And it gets easier and easier to justify the sin every time we do it.

Clear warning!

My thoughts were more along the lines of God's will being done regardless of opposition. Granted, the opposition in this case wasn't forceful, but we see clearly in the passages that God's will was that the temple be built and so the opposition was shut down. In spite of how terribly things seem to be going in governments and world organizations, not only of our own countries but all the countries of the world, God is in control of it all.
