Saturday, November 13-guest post by Pamela

Today's reading from the One Year Bible Chronological Reading Plan is Acts 14:21-28, Galatians 1:1-3:23

Scripture: "...a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified." Galatians 2:16

Observation: Our justification comes through faith in Christ alone.

Application: When I read this verse it reminded me of one of my favourite verses Hebrews 11:1 which says:
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."

This is what FAITH is. It is being SURE of what we hope for and CERTAIN of what we do not see. What does it mean to have faith in Jesus? I once heard a story about the difference between faith and belief. There was a man who had a terrible fear of flying. He refused to fly and he would never set foot onto a plane. He believed that planes could fly. He knew of people who flew and believed that they did. He watched planes on tv and believed that they did fly. He dropped people off at the airport and picked them up. He believed in airplanes that could fly but he didn't have faith in them. He didn't have faith that if he were to get on a plane that it would be able to safely get him off the ground and safely back down. When we have faith in Jesus, it is different than a belief in Him. We have to be willing to give in and put full trust in Him. We have to allow Him to "take us off the ground" and have confidence that He will carry us and set us down safely too. This faith that allows a total trust is what justifies us. Nothing else. We cannot earn it or buy it. It is only through faith.

Prayer: Lord, You are awesome. You have given us the most amazing gift. It is not one we can earn, but one that You give to us as we fully give ourselves to You. You have an amazing plan that You have set out for each one of us. Thank you so showing us how You used Paul and how You can change a person totally and completely. We know that You can do the same amazing work in us. Help us to not just believe that but have faith that you will. Amen.

That is a great analogy - thanks Pam!

Guess, I should learn to read my own schedule of postings - could've saved myself some time ;) Sorry about that!
