Sunday, August 7th

Today's reading from the Chronological OT/NT Reading Plan is Psalm 133-135 - 1 Corinthians 2

Scripture
How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! Psalm 133:1

Observation
Unity among God's family is precious and enjoyable.

Application
Unity within the family of God is so important.

Unity make the church an excellent example to a watching world.

Unity makes our representation of Jesus and the Gospel more authentic and accurate and reflects God's ideal for relationships.

Unity helps us cooperate as a group which makes us more effective in the tasks God has given us to do.

Unity encourages each other and builds each other up.

Unity prevents stress and weariness from the lack of tension which means we have more to pour into the works God has prepared for us to do.

Unity does not mean we agree on every single details. That is unrealistic. But it does mean that we remind ourselves that we need to be united on one common goal - to work together for God,to reflect Him to a watching world, to preach the Good News, to disciple each other, and above all, to give Him glory.

Prayer
Father God, we know that You have given us the immense responsibility to reflect You to a watching world and we know that so often we blow it. Help us not to allow our pride to prevent us from restoring relationships and mending fences over issues that are really not that important. Though we need to stand firm on major doctrinal issues, help us to do so in love and with the goal of unity in mind. Give us a united mind and heart for the lost, for Your kingdom and for Your glory. Amen!

Amen! So true. The world is watching us. In our relationships, as well as our churches.
