Sunday, November 6th

Today's reading from the Chronological OT/NT Reading Plan is Jeremiah 41-42, Hebrews 11:1-19

I love these verses in Hebrews (this is one of my favourite chapters in the Bible)...

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.....All these people were still living by
faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. Hebrews 11:1, 13
Living by faith is possible because of the hope we have in God, because He who promised is faithful - a continuation from yesterday's passage.

I also like v3 which says By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

God called the universe into existence out of nothing. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all life.

But I really wanted to talk about our Jeremiah passage and how we can apply it to our life.

Johanan and his group were on there way to Egypt and stopped to visit Jeremiah to get approval of their plan, not to truly seek God's direction.

Ever done that?

Yup, guilty as charged.

I think we actually do this a lot, often without even realizing it I think. We come to God with our predetermined plans and ask for His blessing. We want Him to approve our desires, not to guide us in another direction.

And even worse is when we come to Him under the pretense of wanting guidance, when we have no intention of doing anything but following through on our own plans that we're certain are so right. God cannot be deceived. Praying this way is deceitful, selfish and completely faithless. God's plans for our lives will always be far better than anything we could imagine for ourselves. We need to trust that by faith, believe it by faith and act on it by faith.

Hmm, guess we came full circle on this one.

Oooooh, yep, I know what you mean about pretending to seek guidance when really I have every intention of following my own plan. Ouch. Great post, Tammy.
