Monday, December 3rd

Today's passage from the Chronological Bible In a Year Reading Plan is 1 Corinthians 15-16
Today's scripture focus is Romans 11:13-16

13 I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I make much of my ministry 14 in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and save some of them. 15 For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?16 If the part of the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, then the whole batch is holy; if the root is holy, so are the branches.

The book of Romans was written primarily to Gentiles. And Paul has just finished spending a lot of time talking about his desire for the Israelites to be saved and that God has not set them aside.  And here he`s reassuring his Gentile church that yes, he knows that his calling is to be an apostle to the Gentiles and he does see that as a priviledge.  But he still has a heart for his people and he hopes that some of them will become saved as a result of Gentile conversion, and to bring the resurrection of the world into Kingdom glory.

v16 really flows better with tomorrow`s passage, so we`ll leave that until then.

Tomorrow's scripture focus: Romans 11:17-24
Tomorrow's Bible In a Year Passage passage: 2 Corinthians 1-4
