Wednesday, December 2nd: 2 Chronicles 28-29, Luke 10:1-24 ~ Tammy

Today's passage from the Bible In a Year Reading Plan is 2 Chronicles 28-29; Luke 10:1-24

3 and he made offerings in theValley of the Son of Hinnom and burned his sons as an offering
When we read this, we rightly recoil in horror at the thought of sacrificing children as burnt offerings to the gods.  This horror continues today, as infants in their mother's wombs are sacrificed every day to the gods of convenience, economy, and whim - likely in far greater numbers than in the days of the wicked Ahaz.  Ahaz was judged for his wickedness, and our nation will be too.

I found it interesting to note that it was necessary for Hezekiah to purify the temple before bringing acts of worship to God.  In a similar way, we cannot worship God with sin rampant in our lives.  I don't mean that we need to get rid of our sin before salvation - that is works based. After our salvation, our worship is meaningless and trite if we have made no attempt at obedience.
